Leveling up with conditional skill trees

Catalin Ichim

About

In this system, players accumulate a set amount of experience (XP) with each step in the simulation, allowing them to reach new levels once enough XP has been gathered. Each level-up grants the player one skill point, which can be spent to unlock a randomly selected ability. These abilities are divided among three skill trees: the first tree is available immediately, the second unlocks after spending 2 skill points, and the third unlocks after spending 7 skill points. The system allows flexibility by enabling adjustments to XP gains, skill point totals, ability counts, and tree unlock requirements, giving players control over the pace and depth of their progression.
