Adjusting Chances for Rare Drops - Pity Mechanics

Catalin Ichim

About

In this refined version of the diagram, three Pity Mechanics are presented. The first system uses a Register to track cumulative failure. It calculates a marginal luck increase (0.001 per unit) and applies it to the legendary drop's Resource Connection using a "+1" value modifier, creating a permanent scaling benefit for every undesired outcome recorded in the simulation.

The second iteration focuses on consecutive streaks by tracking failures in a dedicated Pool that is governed by a reset condition. A Drain is positioned to clear this Pool using an "all" formula, but it only activates when a successful legendary drop occurs. This ensures that the luck boost provided by the Register is temporary, assisting players only during active unlucky stretches and resetting immediately once the success criteria are met.

The final model abstracts the mechanic to a box-opening counter, where every activation of the initial Source increments a tracking Pool. This Pool serves as the input for a calculation Register that modifies the primary Gate's output probabilities. Like the previous models, this system is regulated by a reset trigger tied to the legendary success state. These configurations offer a robust framework for balancing random distributions, and I suggest running a simulation to see how the different weights impact the stability of the legendary drop rate over time.
